    Starting Kendo
Kendo is for all ages of men, women and children from 9 years of age. Most people who start Kendo have never practiced a martial art before. With our Kendo Beginners Course you will learn the basic principles to the martial art of Kendo.
    The Beginners Course

The Kendo Beginner’s Course with the Australian Kendo Dojos is a 6 week course with all armor supplied and the choice of 2 classes per week at any ofour clubs during this course.

    What does the Course Cover?
    Footwork and stance
    Attack and defensive techniques
    Kendo terminology
    Dojo procedure
    Dojo and Kendo etiquette
    How to wear and maintain the Bogu (armour)
    How to wear and the uniform
    Physical fitness at your own pace
    When is the next Beginners Course?
You can start the beginners course at any time at the following locations:
  • Burwood
  • Blackburn
  • Camberwell
  • Essendon
  • Murrumbeena
  • Tecoma
Children from 9 years of age can train the same times as adult classes.

    You will receive a receipt by email confirming your payment.
    Before the start of the course you will be notified by email confirming the starting date of the course and the club, where you will be starting your Kendo Beginners Course.
    When training, wear comfortable, loosely fitting clothing.
    Equipment

The protective armour (Bogu) is supplied for free to use during the 6 week beginners course. You will need to purchase your own bamboo sword ( Shinai) to train with.

When you enrol for the Beginner Course order your Shinai for and it will be ready for you at first class.

Kendo is the art of Japanese swordsmanship that was originally developed and practiced by the Samurai. It’s theory, techniques, and methods of training, have been handed down through the centuries.
